This should be an interesting thread after hearing everyone’s opinions, but what kind of sound SQ or SPL

Should deffinately be interesting. Sub choice has been, and always will be a matter of personal preference. No matter what ground breaking bench marks are set, someone out there will always swear that there is a better setup (and a lot of the time they are correct).

Anyway, my own personal preference is the Rockford HX2 series. There are Punch and Power HX2's. Both are DVC's, but the Power HX2's are RF's best of the best. I'm sure there are others out there that will have different opinions, but the Power HX2's get my vote.

hhmmmmm...around $400 wont get the best of the best im sure. Im a Diamond Audio fan so i'll go with the M6 series. Now if you wanted to break the bank i would say the TDX series. Next would be some Eclipses, not sure on the costs for the higher end models though...either the aluminums or the titaniums...

MY personal favorites are the Eclipse Titanium series (which you can now find on eBay for around 400) they put out huge amounts of bass (with 1.5 inches of x-mas one way) and some how still maintain pretty good sound quality. But Diamonds TDX's are nice as well, and when it comes to SQ I have to go with Quart.

Lots of good affordable ones out there but around a hundred bucks. Diamond Audio CM3's, Infinity Reference or Kappas, MTX 6000, Kicker Comp VR's, RF Puch HE's. I go by my ears so these are just ones i have personally heard.

i've got a set of infinity reference and kappa's (all 4 are 10").  really accurate in the sealed box.  the kappa's sound better though.  but the reference are only like $80 a pop now.

I agree with purerf. I have a pair or 12" punch hx2's with a MA Audio 5011x wired to 1ohm. I pound the crap out of them in a daily driver and they haven't complained one bit. I am stepping up to the diamond audio tdx 15's in my truck. You can get them for $399.99 with no shipping charge from Onlinecarstereo.com. I only paid $250 total for both of my hx2's.
