You could solder it, or use a butt connector having the one wire coming in and two going out, or use a twist type connector. Any would work.

You really don't need to split the wire, the diagram just shows that for fluidity. You can run seperate wires going to each sub. See below

Look at Option #2

Wire each sub like that, and combine the + and - at the amp. So the + and - at the amp will have 2 wires comming from them. Each sub will have a 4ohm ohm load, then when they are wired in parallel to the amp, it drops the total ohm load to 2ohms.

We're still not able to upload pictures, but if you give me your e-mail address I can send you a pic of what I'm talking about

No problem. I just sent the e-mail with the diagram.

And to answer your other question...
Yes, the subs will accept up to 8awg wire. The catch is the amp will only accept up to 8awg as well. And with (2) 8awg + and - wires for the subs, that makes an appx. 4awg bundle at the amp. So you can use an adapter like Stinger 4-8 gauge adapter at the amp. You would need 2 of them (1 for + and 1 for -). $4.99 is the cheapest I've found them online so far.
