After installing a Panasonic headunit into a 99 Alero and installing the antenna adapter the AM reception sucks. It only picks up about 2 stations 880 and 1010 two of the strongest here in NY. BUt it picks up nothing else. The stock radio picked up all the am stations. What could be the problem, the Alero also has an internal antenna.
what about the fm reception? Has that gotten worse as well?

Is it a powered antenna? Maybe its not hooked up? Just a guess.

What?
FM reception is fine, no pwoer antenna. Anyone have any other ideas?
It is possible that there may be a factory amplified antenna, and it needs to get a +12v signal to turn on the amplifier and get good reception. If you used a wiring harness such as the Metra 70-2001 then you'll want to make sure that you hook up the solid blue wire from your panasonic head unit's harness to the Metra harness's solid blue wire. Also this diagram's pinouts should match those for the plug in your vehicle, however the wire colors they list in the table may not match those for your vehicle so assuming the plug is still intact just follow the pinouts.
That's really all I can think of though, and unfortunately I don't think the oldsmobiles even have the amplified antennas but u might as well try that just in case.
Of course verify that the antenna is properly grounded and that the antenna adapter you have is in good condition (sometimes even brand new ones will have a bad crimp and thus a bad connection).
