hey guys, under your advise I bought a 12" eclipse aluminum sub....I was also recommended to get the jbl 600.1 amp.  Im just a little concerned becuase I was also told that I would need a separate crossover, because the X-over on the amp isnt any good....also, I want to give this sub as much power as possible.  The RMS is 500 watts, peak is 1000.  Could I step up to a bigger amp without damaging the sub? I am kind of limited budget wise, I want to try and spend under 300.....should I just stick with the jbl or go with something different?

The JBL 600.1 will be enough power. If you want you can step up to the JBL 1200.1 and just keep the gains on the low side. As far as the JBL's X-over goes who ever told you that was talking out of their @$$
