its a good idea, or use loads of wood glue cause when it dries it will be stonger than the MDF

How big was the piece that split, and which part of the enclosure was it?

it is 15"x11", on the bottom corner. the screw was too big.

Sometimes it helps to pre drill holes half way through to spevent splits.

Here's a good link on enclosure building.

Depending on the size of the split you may be able to repair it, but I would suggest replacing it if you are able to.

I've used liquid nails on the last 2 boxes I built, and both sealed perfectly.  If you buy the low grade stuff, it gives you a 10 minute working period and it stays flexible

i did pre drill the holes and they still split. i did buy liquid nails so hopefully it works, if not i'll just try it again. thanks.

Try to keep your screws at least two to three inches from the corners.  For 3/4 MDF, I would use a course thread drywall screw no longer that 1-5/8" in lenght.  Even if you pre drill a hole it can still splitt if it is too close to the corner.

Hope this helps
