Sq = Sound Quality

any of the headunits above are a good choice, but if i had to choose i would go with the Alpine or the Pioneer,

like bberman1 said sq=sound quality.....i like Alpine the best they give better sq (sound quality) with the 4v preouts as opposed to the clarion which has 2v preouts....i dont have any experience with the pioneer though

If I remember right, the lower the #v of the preamp the harder the external amp has to work (meaning an amp would have to work harder with a headunit using 2v preouts vs 4v preouts).

Alpine gets my vote. I just got another Alpine (CDA-7995) and love it (but it has no internal amplifier so it wouldn't work in your scenereo). I should have never left the Alpine headunits in the first place, but we all live and learn I guess!

In case you're interested, SPL gets mentioned a lot too.
SPL = Sound Pressure Level
