I have a 1997 honda civic dx 4 door. I am building a fiberglass enclosure for one twelve which molds into the wheel well in the trunk. It comes up into the trunk a little bit and the twelve is going to face upwards and slightly towards the front of the car. I plan to build enclosures for two more twelves which will be above and behind this one facing forward . My question is, does it matter where I place the port? Due to space limitations, I plan to place the port right next to the woofer, with only a small space between them. Is this alright? Also I have heard that the bass coming from the front of the woofer should remain separated from the bas coming from the back of the subwoofer, because they can cancel each other out. Is this true? And if so, will the port and the subwoofer each being right next to eqach other and each facing upwards be a problem?
your port location on enclosure face sounds ok just space it as much as you can, the theory that you heard about front and rear waves does not concern port direction its a theory about actual waveform and travel and at what point they meet in a given eviroment such as a car this should not affect you in port location
what concerns me is your plan to install two more subs behind and above this one facing forward this will cause cancellation in some cars more than others
Ok well in response to the last post, I am now leaning towards a slightly different design. Its pretty much the same, only the first 12" sub which I was planning to have facing upward, I now plan to have face in a more forward direction. This way the first 12" sub will be facing in the same general direction (forward) as the other two 12" subs. Only the second two will be slightly further back, to to space restrictions.
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for what kind of material to stretch over the sub rings to form the top of the enclosure. I have heard panty hose, T-Shirt material, does anyone know about any material that I can get cheap at a local store?
walmart has polyfil in a roll, itls like 5 bucks for about enough to fill a 3cft box.
