Subject: Ading 6 speakers to a four channel car deck

I asked earlier about adding 6 speakers to a 4-speaker car deck. I was told that if I ran them parallel, I would present a 2 ohm load which could possibly damage the internal amp in the deck.

1) I was wondering if there are any options avaliable for me to run 6 speakers from a 4 channel deck.

2) Also I wondering why nothing never happened when I ran speakers parallel on my mini system and home stereo. I never ncountered any problems running two speakers from one channel. Anyone know why this works?

Home stereo speakers are 8 ohm load and can be run in parallel to make a 4 ohm load. I'm not sure about your previous post, but what 3 sets of speakers are you wanting to  install into your system that the deck will power ?

I already have 5" in the front and 6" in the back both at 4 ohms. My friend has a pair of 8" speakers at 6 ohms. They do not require much power to get sound. The deck runs at 22 watts rms. I wouldn't mind adding the 8"s to the back. I just want to hear how all this would sound in the end.

8 " speakers ?? What brand are they. Normally you don't get 8 " speakers, just sub woofers.

You can get an 8" mid bass, but either way you're going to need some kind of amp to run those thingsposted_image. I just can't see running a head unit to all those without getting some pretty crappy sound or damaging the head unit. L8R

I know I would need to run some power in them (8"s) but all I really would like to know can I run 6ohm speakers and wire them parallel with 4ohm speakers on my deck. If not are there any suggestions on how to?

for one, the home mini-system has MUCH better cooling than the tiny amp in a head-unit in a car
two, most home amps will handle a 4-ohm load (home speakers are 8 ohms for the most part until you get into the thousand-dollar-plus range)
a car deck is designed for a 4 ohm load. period. it doesn't have the components, cooling, or wiring to handle more current for a two or less ohm load.
If you're dead set on doing this anyway, eother a: wire them in series so that the deck sees an 8 ohm load, or b: wire them in parallel and when the deck fries don't be surprised to hear, "I told ya so", or c: get an external amplifier and use that as the power for your speakers. they make mixed mode amps that will run up to 5 or 6 channels, and any good amp will handle down to at least 2 ohms stable. They have the power, wiring, internal guts, and cooling design to accomodate such current.
radios don't.

by the way, also due to the mass of an 8" driver, I don't recommend ever using a deck to power a speaker that large.
6.5" maximum for the deck's internal amp. There just isn't the power there, and more specifically not the clean power needed to make an 8" driver perform properly.
