K i just bought a set of woofers and box for my car nothing special it was kind of a kit thing that has 2 10" sub and came with a box (planning on replacing the subs when i can afford them)   now the box is ported and the front of the sub are enclosed with a plexi glass front with like 6" gap between the subs face and the plexiglass now the problem with this is that i don't exactly have the biggest trunk in the world and i use it for work and other things like putting skis or golf clubs in the trunk so i want to maximize the room  i have so i was wondering if i could cut off 4"-5" of that gap and seal it back  up again

now would doing that completely mess up the sound from the box or could i do it with out it effecting it too too much

as i said dumb question :):) :P

If the box is a bandpass box, don't cut it because it will ruin it. If you need room then build a sealed box that is easy to remove.

dude...do yourself a favor, sell the box, buy some 3/4" mdf at home depot (maybe 10 bucks), some caulk and a tube of "carpenters goop".  then make a box that is around 1-1.25 cft for each sub, or for one box, make it like 2.5cft or so.  changing the dimensions of a box already built is tricky, and will ruin the box more than likely.  if anything, try carstereo.com for some box building ideas.  its got calculators and all.

Yea, from the way you described it you bought a bandpass box. Cutting it down in size will ruin the box and it will sound like sh$t. Either buy or build a sealed enclosure, it will make your life a lot easier.
