Ok so I'm going to make some fiberglass kickpanels for some component speakers.  I don't know what kind yet, but they will be between 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 inch woofers with like 1 inch tweeters.  How should I have the speakers facing?  Heres a couple scenarios that I have pictured...

Each speaker facing center of vehicle between two front seats.  (Symetrical)

Each speaker pointing straight at the drivers seat.  (Not symetrical, each speaker would be at a different angle.)

Each speaker facing straight back, so sound would travel parallel to the sides of the vehicle.  (Like in home theatre setups.)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • put the mids in the kick panels, and aim them towards the B-pillar on the opposite side
  • put the tweets in the a-pillars, about 6" above the dash, firing straight across the car (directly at each other)
  • now, play with your crossover points and phase on each speaker  to see what works best for the best front imaging for your vehicle.

Why would you have your tweeters and midrange speakers facing differently?  I'm not going to modify my car, just ad kickpanels.  I'm plannin on putting the tweeter right above the midrange.

This enhances your front imaging to give you the best possible front stage from your component speakers.
