I added some Infinity Kappa tweeters to a stock Infinity premium system in a Jeep Liberty. I swapped out the Kappas w/ the stock 2.5 inch paper cones that are in the dash. I'm pleased with the increased brightness of the system however I'm getting a very slight hiss from the Kappas that wasn't present before... If the volume is turned up and the various speakers are active you can't really tell. However at low volume, listening to radio etc. there is a constant but quiet noise coming from the Kappas. I soldered the wires and removed the old oem/Infinity capacitors for as the Kappas have their own. Any ideas why the noise? It's stock I'm guessing maybe the Kappas just bring out my inadequate OEM/Infinity system?
Also at times they seem too bright. With hi notes, hi hat, cymbals etc. it's almost too much. They are inside the dash below the surface with a thin foam cover over them... Anything I can do to decrease the brightness a little? thanks
The Kappa Crossovers have a -3db connection. Connect the + wire there to reduce the output.
Or just move the tweeter so its not too close to you, or pointed right at your ear (try it slighty off, but still towards you)
I had the same problem when I put my Infinity Components in my Dodge Daytona. I was using the stock HU for about a month, till I got enough money to get myself a nice Panasonic HU, and the distortion cleared up.

I have the crossovers hooked up... you said hook the wire "there" well there is only one place to attach the wire correct? I have the crossovers on the positive side. They filtered out the lows... seems to be too much high. I'm confused by your statement?
The new speakers that you installed or of better quality than the factory one. The hiss that you hear is probably noise that is coming through your factory system not your speakers. You did not hear the noise before because the factory speakers were not able to produce the sould so it remained inaudible.
Not all Infinity Kappa's have the -3db option on the crossover. I have a pair of Infinity Kappa 50.5CS's and the passive crossover does not have the -3db option.

But yes, it could simply be that these tweeters have a more extended frequency response than the factory tweets and are revealing shortcomings in the system - or even revealing intentional EQ bumps built into the factory system to try and make inadequate tweeters sound brighter. I don't know enough about OEM/Infinity systems to say for sure that this may be present, though.

Sorry, my mistake. I was looking at the Reference 605CS manual, not the Kappa 605CS.
The Reference's have hte extra connection, the Kappa's have a jumper you need to move.
