Is there any subwoofer on the market that comes close to the handling ability of the W7's. I love the way they sound but buying the JL Audio name is very expensive.

MTX...
Their new 9000 series is a "Direct" compete against the W7's. They stand 2" higher than the W7's, which of course means 2" more in voice coil length, and just all around better. Trust me on this one ....
I personally think all JL Audio products are extremely over rated. Again, that's my personal opinion ...
But check 'em out dude, they're 200 bucks cheaper than the Dub7's.

Well i can recommend some better subs but they are not cheap either. Diamond Audio TDX series and the Eclipse Titanium series. When you want that high quality of a sub they are gonna cost the big bucks.

I agree with tdsteele, in my opinion they are both better subs than the W7

I have owned quite a few" high end" Audiobahn subs and to be honest they are not that great. They look nice but when it comes down to it they are more bark then bite. Not to mention they are not very reliable.

all the subs mentioned above besides the mtx 9500 series are spl subs.  The W7 was engineered as a hybrid, a subwoofer that can be a SPL or SQ sub.  All those are great subs but i have yet to see a series like JL's win so many first places in SQ and SPL.

yeah the JL W7 is a great sub but it is ridiculously overpriced!!!  i mean come on, a 12" is $750!!! thats outrageous.  there are many 12" subs better than a W7 or of equal quality that are cheaper!  MTX 9500, Atomic Apocalypse, Eclipse Titanium, Memphis HPO, PowerAcoustik Mofo, Fosgate power HX2, and Cadence Wild Beast just to name a few!!!  as far as the W7 being a great SPL sub...wrong!!! its a very loud sub with great sound quality too but people talk about this sub as the greatest thing to ever hit a SPL competition!  i am a very avid sound competitor...everyone on my team (wallstreets finest) uses Atomic subs.  they are cheaper and guess what...all but 2 of us have TN state records and believe it or not, we did it without using JL W7!  I saw a guy do a 145dB with one 12 W7.  this is not very impressive as this can be acomplished with several brands of 12" subs that arent as expensive.  i also saw a guy with 2 13" W7's and a directed 1100D on each sub only hit a 153!  for the money spent on those subs...he could have bought something else and hit higher numbers!!!

Thank you all for your info, but now I know I want a sub with great s/q for everyday use. Not a spl sub. Jimmy DiTraglia, is that Cadence sub a good s/q sub? I got brochures on them but I haven't heard anything on them. Actually, anyone can answer this quesion.

If you want something with excellent sq and tons of bass I would go with an Eclipse Aluminum.

I have had my mind set on some TDX 15's and think they are a great sub. I heard them back to back with a 13w7 and the w7 was louder and tighter. I just heard the MTX 9500 15 with 1000 watts on it and it kicked a$$. I may have just changed my mind....

What about the M.A.Audio MA1200XL? And how is it that ever website I go to (M.A.Audio, MTX, JL Audio etc.) claims to hold all these world records in Spl, dB, SQ contests?
