What is the best way to properly cut the metal in a door to install 6.5" driver? What tool is typically used for this? How do you measure for the correct opening/circumference?

what kind of speakers? b/c they should come with a template, sometimes is part of the box and you dont even realize it. And for the tool, you can use a dremel, air saw (perferred) or just tin snips. Either will work if your carefull just check for clearence. What car is this for?

Hi Cruisin,

thanks for the reply...I don't have the templates...just some extra 6.5 Eclipse drivers I have laying around that are new.

The car is a 94 Caprice and I am thinking of installing them in the rear door where the power switch is for the window.

If you can find the manuals for these subs, either at home or on line, it will tell you the cut out circumfrence. You can use a hand held jig saw and get a metal cutting blade for it if you have the depth availabe so the blade won't hit the other side of the door. A dremel will take forever but it will give you a perfect cut.

Thanks...I realized that I had a template...it dawned on me...I have a Dremel and a jig....

any thoughts on how to modify the plastic lower section of the door panel to allow for these new units? I have been thinking about it but haven't come up with a good idea.

Actually I took a look and I can't see how there is enough room in the rear door for a 6.5 driver without serious modification....if anyone has done it, I would be interested in hearing about it.
