is it sensible or safe to use dummy resistors to get a desired load on an amp, if so what effect will it have and what type is advised?https://mcm.newark.com/NewarkWebCommerce/mcm/en_US/support/catalog/productDetail.jsp?id=28-0750 mcmelectronics has resistors for audio i want to know if they can be used in series or parallel with subs and if they will afftect the quality audio produced by the amp. if it makes a difference i am currently running a fockford 1000a 2 channel with 2 kappa perfect 12.1 the reason i have the two channel amp is i intend to purchase two more kappa's TIA I really am curious about this one. ------------- Quad L Handyman services

Using resistors is wasted power, more of a cheap heater if anything. You may get more power out of the amp but loudness wise, it will be the same volume coming out of the speaker.

what do you mean by loudness and volume, how does this relate to subs?

Could you do it safely? Yes.
Is it sensible? No.
By the way from what I remember about that amp you would want more than 100W resistors..I don't think you want to blow one of those..Either way definately a waste of time and money IMO. The dumy resistors will basically get warm and sort of hum..(Not that you'd hear it over your subs anyway..) 2 Channel amp, 2 kappas - where's the problem? I would definately just wire your subs up to the amp as is until you get the other 2..Good luck

Basically if want you get a resistor to raise the power of the amplifier, here is what will happen. Let's say you have one sub at 4 ohms and your amp puts out 100 watts at 4 ohms, so you put a 4 ohm resistor parrallel to the sub. Now your amp is putting out 200 watts, 100 of which will go to the sub and 100 will go to the resistor. Do you get what is being said here?
