I'm installing a cd player in a Ford Explorer that has a premium sound system and would like to bypass the factory amplifier. I'm assuming that I can't use the new cd player with the factory amplifier. Where is the amp located and how do I bypass it? Thanks for your help.

To bypass the amp just run new speaker wires from your headunit to the speakers themselves.

on that year explorer just hook up the remote amp wire from the deck to the car's facf you are using an after market wire harness kit, check if there is a blue wire(remote on),this will turn on the factory amp and you won't have to run all new wires.

The amp is located in the rear right side panel of the Explorer. There are by-pass harnesses available form most o the kit companies out there, or you can just run the new lines from the headunit to the output lines of the amp. While the stock amp can be used with an aftermarket radio it will be very load and distort easy, not to mention it won't be very clean sounding.
