hey everyone, I am getting some serious noise through my speakers when my engine is running. Here's the setup. I have my headunit and dvd player hooked up to an amp through split rca cables. i only get the engine noise when both of them are plugged in. unplug the rca's of either and the noise stops. unplug power from dvd and the noise stops. no noise when the engine is off. the noise increases with rpm increase. I tried running a ground loop isolater, but that didn'y work. I tried running the headunit through the inputs of the dvd player and that didn't work. I even bought one of those audio/video selectors for a home theater that lets you select the source signal and that didn't work. Anybody have any ideas on what else I could check? Any input would really be appreciated. Thanks.

change grounds..wrap rcas in copper foil...

Deffinately check your grounds. How many grounding points do you have, and how far away from each piece of equipment are they? ------------- Squirrel

You have your head unit AND a seperate DVD player connected to the same amp through split RCA cables? The problem is most likely that the head unit and the DVD player have different output impedences and different INTERNAL ground planes. Be sure that the ground on the two units is in the EXACT same location - I'd even suggest making sure the ground wires were the same length. But that will probably not solve the issue if it is caused by output impedence. If you have noise from the engine (the alternator or the coil, actually) it could be a bad ground anywhere in your car... If possible you actually want to run your DVD player as an auxiliary input to the head unit. What head unit do you use?

shorter the ground cables the better, that's what cured my problems... and scaping down to bare metal...
