for stripping and crimping 0-4ga wire i break out the trusty box cutter (can be purchased for a few dollars) and the almighty hammer, or on good days the mini-sledge to crimp with. suggestion for using hammer to crimp tho, use the street or concrete thats not vital, it damages every surface that you do it on but the crimp comes out nice if your first strike comes down straight.

Concrete, hammer, dykes (wire cutters), and a flathead screwdriver work nicely for me. If you flatten the crimp just right, you can place the flathead screwdriver in the seam and hit it. That drives the edges in and down. Thus allowing you to tap the sides in and down a little more. I've had more crimps pull off from just hammering it than I have like that. Granted I use those rubber sleaves to cover the crimp. The screwdriver can tend to cause some scoring marks.

Either way, always test them before installing. I've had some crimps look tits, but just a little extra pressure and out comes the wire! Nothing too hard, but nothing that it shouldn't have been able to withstand either.

i appreciate the suggestion, info, tips, and replies fellas.....i don't have my own business, but i'm the person people go to in regards to an electronic installation or question. I want to try to upgrade my profression a bit by using the proper equipment rather than do it "backyard" style. I've been using a hammer and a pair of vise grips......but again i want to be able to get my paws on what our local shops have.

II normally use these connectors  https://www.darvex.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=D&Category_Code=PCON You don’t need any special tools other than an Allen key, and they give you a good clean look
