I was planning on installing an amp to a factory head unit.  Obviously the head unit does not have rca outs?  Do I need to purchase the line converters that I've been reading about?  Can't I just convert the regular speaker wire into rca plugs?

Most good amps have high inputs, so just run the high outputs from the deck to the amp and your good to go.... worst case is that you buy a good quality hilow converter....

What would happen if the amp cannot handle the input?  What would happen?  How could I tell?  And if I needed a hilo converter.. where can I get one?

AND...When converting to rca plugs... which is negative, the outter rim? and the inside is the positive?  Is that correct?

yes the outer part of the rca is ground, if you need a hi-lo converter most audio stores have one, or you can get them online for a good price at www.mobile-emotions.com , www.purecaraudio.com , www.ikesound.com , those three site usually have fairly good prices on different things from my experience

feel free to correct me people.
