Is there a way to find the positive and negative leads of a factory speaker. They are unlabled and it would be nice to pick the right lead! I've got access to high end HP multimeters and other electronics equipment if that might help. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

Are you really a Pro Mountain Biker or is just your user name ?? Any way........ what vehicle is this for ? You can look up the information on the database or if you wish you can use the o'l battery test and see if the speaker jumps in or out and this will let you know if it's a +) or a (-) terminal.

I'm a mountain biker, work at a bike shop, all that but a pro... not really. So which way will it jump when I test?
ie:
+ batter to + speaker terminal goes in or out?
The reason I can't really look it up is because it has a built in amplifier I'm removing to use my new stereo's amplifier.

your speaker (cone) should pop out to have correct polarity then you have the speaker in-phase....if your speaker (cone) pushes inwards while you're doing this speaker pop test then your speaker polarity is out of phase. hope this helps.... ------------- *paw print*

By the way just use a little AAA 1.5 volt battery or two of them in series to test it! Don't even think about doing it off of your car battery. Some guys use a 9v battery as well but I'd stick with something a little less..Good luck,

Don't use anything larger than a couple of AAA as NowYaKnow says as this will damage the speaker as it is with just one AAA. IT is not a hi tech way of doing it, but effective none the less. What kind of rig to you ride and what shop do you work at. I ride a '03 Big Hit Expert and I love it !! Talk to you later.

The battery test worked great. Got the polarities all figured out, thanks for all your help.
I ride a 03 Trek Liquid 30 with mavic crossmax XL's and hutchison tubeless tires. Just took it out to moab. Down to 4" mode for the climb and up to 5" for the decent. Blew by my buddies on 35lbs freeride bikes on the climb and kept up with them on the decents. Bike rides like a dream.
