Subject: Do I really need sub control feature?

I have an 8" sub mounted between the 2 seats (2 seater).   2  fosgate 5 1/4" in doors with separate tweeters.   I'm shopping for an HU and amp on a budget.   The guy at the car audio store says I need to get an HU with sub control.   I see his point, especially with the sub so close to the ears.  However, couldn't this control be accomplished with the fade function on a normal (ie:  cheaper) HU?   There seems to be quite a difference in price to get the sub control feature.   Also,  I thought I needed a 4 channel amp to power this system - one channel for each door speaker and bridge the other two channels for the sub, with the tweeters running straight off the HU.  Anyway, my friend says I only need a 2 channel amp.   Any advice about making do with a 2 channel and an HU with no sub control?

the sub control all depends on your taste, but i would reccomend something to cut the bass off just incase the po-po's run out of other people to chase.

about the amps, its up to you if the money isnt an issue get a 4 channel for the tweeters and mids and a mono block amp for the sub. if money is an issue i would suggest funning the tweeters and mid off the h/u with a mono block for the sub, you will need to add capisitors to the tweeters as not to blow them with low frequencies

I dont think you necessarily need a bass control but it would be best with one

Only if you don't want your sub to play all of the time you would need a bass control. If you are going to use a mono amp for the sub you can just add a toggle switch to cut the amp on and off at your leisure. Since you are using one sub I would recommend a small mono block amp and a good head-unit that will fit in your budget. You can run the 5 1/4's off of the head unit and the sub off of the amp this should give you a nice sound and keep you with in your budget.

If you need any recommendations the guys on this website are excellent...

I suggest you go with the bass control knob. Always keep the future in mind, you my want to upgrade later on and your going to be stuck with a head unit you dont want. Yeah its a little more money but its worth it, at least thats the way I think.
