Just installed a new headunit in my 1992 4-runner, everything seems to work fine, but the sound to the rear speakers is very, very weak with virtually no bass or mid. I rechecked the connections and everything seems to be fine....front speakers put out full sound. No amps or crossovers are being used....any suggestions? Thanks.

set the fade more so to the rear.

Some 4 runners have a hidden amp for the rear speakers. If memory is correct hook up the remote on lead from your cd to the amp turn on wire in the factory harness behind the radio, should solve the problem.

I'd adjusted the fade all the way to the rear, but the sound was still extremely weak. There was an amp in the front of the vehicle with the original factory headunit, but I removed that amp with the old stereo. Any idea where the rear amp would be located in the vehicle?

Can't remember off hand, did you try the amp turn on wire? My toyota has no fewer than 4 hidden amplifiers. As a last resort you may have to wire the speakers directly. The speakers should be 4" and mounted in a box behind the panels. It takes a little time to remove these panels, you may just find the amp back there as well ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

Nissan pathfinders are basically the exact same at 4 runners, and in the pathfinders, the amp is located on the right side of the rear of the vehicle above the wheel whell, , , ,behind the the panel.
