Subject: 2 Hifonics brutus or a JBL PX 2200.1?

I am trying to decide on what to use to power my subs. I haven't decided on whether to buy 2 15" Diamond TDX, 2 Pioneer Premier 5000spl's, or 4 15" Diamond CM3's. The amps setup I am looking at consists of either 2 Hifonics Brutus 1500D's or 1 JBL 2200.1. The Jbl will run me $899 + shipping and the Hifonics are $568 for both including shipping. If both companies amps put out what they say they will the Hifonics look like the better deal. Anybody have any input on these amps? Out of my amp and sub choices what do you guys think would work out best. I listen to mostly rap, R&B, and top 40, but I do still break out some Bass Mekanik nw and then. I prefer sealed enclosures so that may help some. I can get the 5000spl's for the same price as the TDX's which is $400 a piece shipped. The CM3's will run around $480 for all 4 shipped.

Ok just my opinion, but with those choices i would go with the 4 CM3's and the JBL amp pushing them. I run a pair of 10" CM3's and they are a really impressive sub. One thing about the Diamonds, they have a transmission line box they have designed for them that really makes them things pound. Worth looking into if you have the space for it.

If my memory serves me right, a transmission line box requires alot of space right? if so, I'm not sure I can fit that type of box for 4 15" subs in the back of a LR Discovery. I kinda prefer the sound of a sealed box. Any reason in particular for choosing the JBL amp and not the Hifonics?

Ok, trans box does take up more than the sealed but not as much as you might think. About the same as a ported box. Sound wise, i havent heard the Diamonds in a sealed so i cant compare that way. You can get the box specs from Diamond if you would like to compare the sizes, just drop them an email and tell them your plans, they have great customer service. Now to the amps. With the 4 15's scenerio, reason i picked the JBL was for one, JBL amps seem highly recommended on this site and two, the 4 CM3's would add up to 2400 rms and the JBL puts out 2200 so a pretty good matchup there. If you went with the TDX's, they are 1500 rms each and then the Hifonics would be the better match. If you like the Hifonics amps better, have you considered Diamonds M6 series subs??? They are 800rms each and 4 of them with the Hifonics would be extremely rude.

I did check out the M6's, but it seems like I am always going to one extreme or the other. What I mean is that going with either 2 great subs(TDX) or more(4) of the lesser subs(CM3). I went through the same thing with the Pioneer's. I couldn't decide on 2 5000spl's or 4 2000spl's. I do agree with your choices. Are you not a fan of the Pioneer Premier SPL series? I am putting this set up in a 99' Landrover Discovery II. My guess is that the stock alternator won't be up to the job, so pureRF, if you know where I can get one for this vehicle let me know. I do want to start by upgrading the alt first before I start with the caps and extra batteries.

Honestly i have no experience with the Pioneer subs, but im a huge Diamond fan so. But to be real honest i had thought about switching to the Eclipse Aluminums on my next setup so go figure. About alts, bberman1 may be able to recommend some guys about getting a high output for that vehicle.

i have experience with both of those pioneer subs, the 2000spl's are a great sub for the price, 4 of them would be luouder than the 5000's, those are kinda just overratted, plus you can probably get 4 2000spl's, for the price of 1 5000SPL, i can 4 spl2000's for 800 bucks canadian from my local dealer, and the spl is 999.99

I haven't heard the 5000's in person so I'm still not sold on them. I have only heard 1 2000, but it didn't have enough power(only about 200w). I did hear 2 1500's in a ported box with about 600w total and they did good for being the lowest on the totem pole. I can get the 2000's for $130 each and the 5000's for $400 a piece.
