Proper Amp Selection

I recently purchased two 12" Kicker L7 subwoofers that are 4 ohm DVC subs.  From my understanding of this setup, I can either run the subs at 4 ohm or at 1 ohm.  My question is, should I get a mono amp that is 1 ohm stable, a two-channel amp that I can bridge at 4ohms mono, or a four channel amp and bridge each set of channels?  Does anybody have any opinions on which might be better, worse, or does it not matter? Is it more strenuous on the amp to run at 1 ohm, or at 4 ohms bridged?  Basically, any info you can give me will help.  I am completely lost when it comes to this stuff.

Your best bet would be to scrap the 4 channel amp idea. A big two channel amp bridged into the 4 ohm load is a good idea, use an American built amp for the best results. My personal opinion and I'm sure that most readers would agree is a mono sub amp, Class D , built in the USA (higher output current), designed and engineered to work at 1 ohm mono, power output to match or exceed that of the Kicker subs. A class D amplifier generally speaking makes current much easier than most 2 or 4 channel class AB amplifiers, this means less current draw from the battery, a lower heat signature from the amp which means more output current to your speakers. It is not that strenuous on the amp to run at 1 ohm mono provided that it was designed and engineered to do it, be wary of the amp that claims x watts at 1ohm MAX. This amp is usually designed to operate at 2 ohm mono, not 1ohm like you need. Hope this gives you a starting point. For an amp choice, head into your local specialty shop, not the big box and start asking questions or post them up here for someone to answer.

Thanks for the prompt response.  The mono amps  I am considering are:

1.) Orion XTR PRO 2400

2.) Diamond Audio D5 1200.1

3.) Memphis MC1000D

Two-Channel Amps:

1.) PPI PCX-2400/PCX-2200

Any suggestions, I'd love to hear them.  On a side note, I was considering MA Audio amps as well, but I don't know if thet are any good.  If anybody knows anything at all regarding MA Audio, please let me know.

The Orion is a last years model and is an awesome amlifier, being last years model thay probably want to sell it cheap, it would be a great choice. The Diamond is also a really amazing ampliifer, you can't miss on either of these choices.
