Most people hook their system up to their battery but i was wondering could you hook up ur amplifier to the altenator and if you did what would be the difference in system performance?

As long as your vehicle doesn't have an outboard voltage regulator, then sure you could.  But it won't make any difference unless your power cable between the alternator and battery are really small.

it will be easier on your battery in the long run.. That is if you were running it where the alt power went in one post, and the power wires for your system when out the 2nd post.   What i did was get a terminal and run the 0 guage from my alt to the terminal, and the power wires from the same terminal to my amp.   And on the 2nd post i used that for the vehicle's power usage.
