thud through speakers

have just reinstalled my mp3/cd head unit. and everytime a song changes or i press a button, a thud comes through the speakers. is this a head unit problem (somehow i dont think so). or have i stuffed up the install?

1st thing is to double check your ground for the headunit and the speaker connections. Did you use a harness or cut into the factory wiring? ------------- Squirrel

have tapped into the ignition for the power wires. have used a factory earth for the ground. but i did try to test thr unit by tapping straight off the battery for + and - and it still did it

If this is in the same vechile, is there anything that you have done differently or changed?

no this is a different vechile. could it be somre sort of drain on the battery. maybe its to small for the load?

You'll probably find that if you run a new ground wire you might remove the problem. But if it is doing it direct from the battery than i suspect it is either a low quality unit or there maybe something wrong internally.

Try tapping the battery for the +, but ground the headunit (-) to the chasis of the vehicle (less then 3 feet away, clean bare metal). You normally don't run both + and - to the battery like you mentioned you tried above. Make sure you fuse you + wire within 18 inches of the battery with an inline fuse. ------------- Squirrel

thanks to everyone for there help but i tried a new ground, and a different cont. wire, and still the same problem. so i tried swapping to the old head unit and no problems what so ever. it was be the head unit. again thankyou
