I would like some information on adding a amp and subs to existing factory head unit. Would I need line level convertors for both left and right channels and the rear channels. This is a conversion van that has separate tweeters and mid range speakers in the doors. There are 6x9 speakers in the rear doors. This will be my first time trying this. I hope to put the subs under the bench in the rear to protect them from being seen and from grand children. Any help would be appreciated.

Buy an amp with high level inputs and you will not need a line level convertor. Tap into the rear speakers for the input and you don't have to worry about a RCA cord then. ------------- Jeff

Just wondering, if you tap into the rear speaker wires for the signal, wouldn't you then need to run the rear speakers of an amp aswell.

nope, not at all. the amp takes the signal from the rear speaker lines, and converts it to "line level" (RCA, low voltage signal) which feeds the amplifier for the subs. it's a parallel connection, so the rear speakers won't even "notice" the amp being there.

Just to let you know about the progress. The rear speakers were tapped but a line convertor was used to allow for the RCA plugs into the amplifier. The sub is bridged out of the amp, which is a Soundstream 2 channel 320 watt picasso. The Sub is a 10", in a ported box. The fade control on my General Motors factory unit will also fade out the sub.

yup that is correct if you fade to the front past the mid-way point ("0")
However, short of having a dedicated subwoofer output from a crossover or EQ, and using a factory stereo, this is about the best you're going to get.
