The stock CD player in my car tends to skip when I run over bumps in the road or if I hit the dashboard. I have 2 12s and a audiobahn A8002T amp which is 2x400 watts rms at 2 ohm. Do you guys think ithe subs will make the cd player skip? Is there a way to prevent this or should I just buy a new cd player.

Anything's possible. Is your stock CD player an in-dash player or an external changer? How old is it? ------------- Squirrel

You can install dynamat (or any equivilant) around the headunit mounting area. Don't put it directly on the headunit.
If your player is a 9+ year old factory CD player, then I'd suggest an upgrade. ------------- Squirrel

I was thinking about the dynomat idea but if i tap the front of the cd player hard enough it will ship so I will prolly have to get a new one but I do like the voume and seek controls on my steering wheel. Is there a way I can still use those on a after market cd player? The car is a 96 Buick Regal.

Here is another possibility and a request for more info. Does the cd player skip because of the sub bass? If it does, the shock wave from the sub (and the subs particular frequency it's playing) may cause the cd transport to skip or resonate at the same frequency as the sub is playing, bad things happen here. If this is not the case, I have seen some cd player's start to skip from an undervoltage / undercurrent problem, I do not think this is the case. More than likely the cd player's supension is tired. All cd player's have some kind of suspension system, whether it's silicone rubber insulators or multiple springs, whatever. Just like the suspension in your car, if your cars shocks get worn out, so does your teeth from the lack of ride comfort. This is more than likely what's happening in your cd player, it's tired and needs to go to the old cd player rest home. Many of the new cd players on the market can also be adapted to work with the steering wheel controls, head into your local specialty shop for a good (ahhhhmmmEclipsemmmgggh) frog in my throat there, cd player that either comes with a remote control or can be used with the steering wheel controls. There may be other reasons for your cd to skip, maybe someone else also has a good idea to follow up on.
