Wondering, is it possible to internally modify a Sony head to change the recieved FM band? I got a Japanese MD player, which uses (I think) 72-89mhz, can this be changed via a jumper, or soldering a new chip to change it to the New Zealand 88-106mhz?

While it is possible to change the FM tuning band in any receiver, it is not something the average owner could do. It is not a matter of a jumper, it would require replacement of a few "chips" in the circuit board. So while it is possible to do this, it may cost more than a complete new unit to make this sort of change. I recomend that if you are serious, take the head unit to a certified Sony dealer and get a price quote. Prepare to be told "no way" or for gross sticker shock!
