I own a 1990 mustang gt hatch. I just removed the back seat. This is where I want to place 2 12'' eclipse titaniums. Will it hit harder if I face them down with a 4'' gap between the subs and the floor in a sealed box - or - face them to the back of the drive/passenger seats????? I want them to break my ear drums and my mids and tweets will do the rest.
Thanks For Your Help Everybody- Brandon
No offence dude, but break your eardrums (yah I know). There is a very good chance that you will suffer permanent hearing damage, I know all about this, I personally have a 18db loss in both ears and I will never get it back. While owning an audio store is great and playing with tunes all day is great, I want to do something else and guess what is keeping me from doing it, all those days of playing my stereo so it would break my eardrums. I just never had anyone to tell me otherwise. Use your stereo properly, wear hearing protection when you have to, do not listen to loud music for prolonged periods. Enjoy your stereo system and building it up, just don't overdue it so that one day you can't enjoy it because you can't hear it. I would not be firing these subs downwards at all, they have a tendancy to rip out of the box quite easily when properly powered and improperly mounted. These subs wail, they sound amazing and should last you for a long time, enjoy. If I had my choice I would still be looking for a way to get them into the trunk.

Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
Personally, I have found that you will get the most SPL from hatchbacks when the subs are facing the rear of the car (and the enclosure is as close to the back of the rear seat as possible).
I hope you have either (1) amp rated at least 1500 x 1 @ 1ohm or 750 x 2 @ 2ohms, or (2) amps rated 750 x 1 @ 2ohms. As well as a high output amplifier and beefed up power wires.
Nice choice on the Titanium's though, I plan to upgrade to them eventually myself. I'm figuring on using (2) Eclipse Titanium 12's powered by (2) Rockford Fosgate 1000bd's.
