i was wondering if a optima yellow top will make much of a difference in my car, setup is 1000 watts total system power , with a highout put alternator running 140 amps, setup is is aiming for loud sq sistem !! thanks

Do you listen to the system a lot with the vehicle off? Because of the high output alternator, I highly doubt that your voltage is dipping down to where you are drawing from the battery. So therefore vehicle off listening is the only way that an optima will help your system. Although they are nice batteries to have. They have a lot of current available, and are deep cycle batteries just in case. -------------

no i dont listen a lot with the Vehicle off ... though when im RELLY bumpin it. lol. I sometimes think im dipping in to the battery, because the lights dim.... and at stop lights they dim.... so? ------------- everything stolen :(

At low RPM's, I can see the head lights dimming a little bit. But unless they are getting REALLY dim, then I wouldn't worry about it. You could meter the voltage and see how low it drops. But even still, a yellow top won't fix that. You may want to look into getting a capacitor. In fact, if you can try getting two half farad capacitors instead of a single farad. The reason for this is that you will get more use out of them that way. I recently found out that when you series capacitors, ESR and ESL cuts in half. That means you will have more stored current available. -------------

Who told you this? Wiring capacitors in series is NOT the way to gain any benefit. First off, ESR and ESL stand for Equivalent Series Resistance and Equivalent Series Inductance. If you wire two capacitors in series, the two ESR values get added together (resistors in series), and the two ESL values get added together (inductors in series). Neither of these is a good thing. Also, when you wire two identical capacitors in series, the overall capacitance is only one-half of that of a single capacitor. So if you take two identical 1/2-Farad caps and wire them in series, you'll end up with 1/4-Farad of capacitance, and double the ESR and ESL of a single capacitor. This is worse, in every conceivable way, than using a single cap. Scott Gardner

Oops, my bad. That was a typo. I meant parallel. Thanks for catching that. -------------

To add to this, I recently bought three one farad caps for my system. Are you saying I should ditch the buss bars it came with (essentially would be wired in series) and wire them up in parallel with a distro block?

The bus bar should wire them in parallel. IT should connect all the positives together and all the negatives.

this is the second time ive seen somebody post or the same person post about bus bars making the caps a series circuit. why would companies create a product that would make their product less efficient?

Drr, now that i thought about it, and drew it out, it makes sense. The buss bars put it in parallel. If they were connected + to - to + to - they would be in series. Thanks for clearing that up!!!

Stephen, you know that Reference 300 you have, open it up and have a look at the power supply...I mean cap bank. Soundstream put in a whole pile of caps into the power supply sections of their amplifiers to do exactly what you say, lower the ESR.
