What exactly does it take to bridge an amp. Is it just combining the like wires from each channel and running it to the terminal on the side of my box

Bridging requires that the amp supports this feature.
Bridging inverts the sine-signal of one channel, so that when you connect say, right pos, and left neg to a single speaker, it receives an accurate signwave with the proper amount of power for the single 4-ohm driver.
Read the amp's directions. If you just start combining output wires of the amp, you'll have a fire, not a bridged amp.
