im looking for some really good sq speakers that can also handle a beating, ive heard that jl xr's are nice but they can be too bright... my price range is about 300 retail for a pair of speakers... and there 6.5 inches

Look into Focal, MB Quart ,Diamond Audio, and Eclipse.

Alpine type r components. they sound great for the price you pay. you can usually pick them up for about 200.00 on ebay. i have a set in my silverado, i love em

If you can scrounge up another $50, I'd get the Adire Koda's.  They have some of the best midbass you will find in a component set.  They use a metal tweeter, but it is very smooth and natural.  They perform as well as sets costing twice as much.

As an example, I switched out my $650 a/d/s/ component set for these speakers because they sound better.  Here's a link:

Check out these Hifonics Components on Sounddomain.com for cheaper than the rest. They have great reviews on the Quality of their midbass, mids, and highs and the kevlar/nomex midbass woofer has a phase plug for the flattest response curve possilbe. The ceramic tweeters are said not to be harsh at all. And if you can find them, they shouldn't cost you more than $200 with shipping, but your gonna have to try hard! heres the site: https://www.sounddomain.com/sku/HIFHZCX62C

i found audiobahn component sets to be very affordable and i love the way they handle.....try doing your research on these.....i fell in love with them myself.
