Hey everybody. I don't have much experience with distributing power and ground wires, so i was wondering if you guys (or ladies, if you're out there), could help me out. I have 2 amps that i would like to give 4 gauge wiring each to. Is it necessary to have a 2 gauge wire into the distibutor, or can i use a 0 gauge wire? thanks for any help.

BE MORE SPECIFIC WHAT IS THE POWER OF ALL AMPS ETC.

please list the brand and model of the amps, and their RMS power rating.
based on this you can calculate current demands, and use the tables on this site to figure gauge needed.
If you want to run 4AWG, run a single 4AWG from battery to the amps. Then use a power distribution block to split down to 8AWG cables you can connect directly to the amplifiers as needed. the required gauce is based on current demand and distance run.
Ground cables should be within 24" of each amplifier, grounded to chassis.

the two amps are a phoenix gold qx.900 and the other is a kenwood kac-749s. i believe the pheonix gold amp is putting out 450 watts rms at 2 ohms (i have 2 4 ohm subs in parallel to it) and the kenwood is at 35 watts x 4 channels rms, and the wire to the distributor is about 18 feet in length. The wires to the amps will be about 3-5 feet each. ------------- Jon Don't like rockford subs? Then don't look at my car =)

I will be running 3 amps as well. 2 Kenwood 4ch each bridged in to 2ch at 70watts rms (70x4rms) and a Infinity Basslink at 200w rms and I'll be running 4ga to the trunk connected to a distribution block and then 8 ga to each amp. Roughly 480watts rms, peak somewhere around 760watts.

okay, im just double checking my setup that ive had for about a year with no problems. please leave your comments on it. I have a fused 4 guage power wire from the battery to the distributor in the trunk, about 19 feet long. from the distibutor, i have two 4 guage power wires going to each amp, about 3 feet each. Phoenix Gold recommended a 4 guage wire be put into the amplifier, not an 8 guage, but i havent noticed any loss in power. so should i upgrade, or is this setup okay?
