Time for a real audio system? Sounds like the factory head either has packed it in or the factory amp.

The system has four individually amped speakers that if any one goes out often shuts the whole system down. I have a 91 Q45 that has had the same problem in the past. Took it to a local stereo dealer/installer and they were able to find which were bad and get replacement parts from Bose. There were faulty capacitors that would fail on the amps.

As to the other reply "Time to get a real system?", have you ever heard the stock Bose system in a Q? I doubt it or you wouldn't speak so disparaging about the system. I asked a sales person at the same dealer/installer which sells systems from a few hundred to several thousand what they would install in my car if it were there's and they laughed and said, "I would fix the Bose and be very, very happy." End of comment.

One more note. If you shop around on phone, be sure to describe your problem to several shops. I did and found only the dealer and two others that instantly knew what the problem was. The Infinity dealer wanted over $225 per speaker plus the labor. The Accesory shop I ended up taking it to only charged me $75 per plus 40 to get the speakers in and out. They checked the rear speakers for me and said they had already been updated with new capacitors for no charge.
System has worked and sounded awesome ever since.

Like I said, time for a real system (just my opinion), and yes I have heard the system. While I do agree with fixing something you are happy with, sometimes this is the best bet and maybe for you Bob, this is all you needed. Maybe for someone else they do want to step to the next level.  While there is no doubt a "high end" factory system is better than the average at best equipment they install as standard equipment, there is no way that a 1992 vintage system can or will keep up to a properly designed and contructed aftermarket audio system, there has just been too much change in the industry in this time frame. Installation techniques have changed dramatically, use of response meters has proliferated, equipment is (generally speakering depending on brand) a much higher calibre with more to offer and the possibilities are endless. But to have one sales person say it will cost you this much $ and fix the Bose and you will be very very happy, for me that does not answer the question. What if I wanted to replace the system?, the sales person just blew me off and cost the dealer a large sale. Maybe I have a different take on audio than you and I express it when facing "factory Bose" or " factory Infinity", especially since having dealt with them for 16 years, yes I have heard numerous great sounding factory systems, matter of fact I had one in my own 93 MR2 turbo until the head packed it in, however, never have I heard or seen a factory system that has the build quality and sound quality of a good aftermarket system. But point taken from your post, we all have our opinions.
