Hey I need some help designing a new system but I have a few problems.
I have a 2000 Honda Civic with a 75 amp factory alternator. I am used to high spl in my other american cars but the Honda alternator is giving me trouble.
For my sub amp I will be installing either a Fosgate 800a2 (200 X 2 @ 4 ohms - 400 X 2 @ 2 Ohms) or a Audiobahn 1500HC (500 X 1 @ 4 ohms - 1000 X 1 @ 2 Ohms - 2000 X 1 @ 1 Ohm) **All RMS Ratings
My first problem is awhile ago I had the audiobahn amp connected with a 130 Amp alternator - of course in retrospec I obviously wasn't thinking about my actual amperage usage and melted my alternator. (I was powering 2 subs @ 1 ohm 2000 RMS - so I was using over 145 amps just for the sub amp.) **This was obviously dumb.
Now I am looking for some new subwoofers but I worried about powering them. I would like to install the Fosgate and get 2 - 12" Dual 4 ohm Voice Coil Subs giving them 400 RMS each but that would use a constant of about 60 amps plus another 20 amps for my mid/high amp. That's 80 amps and with a 75 amp alternator it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out there is a problem.
So I think I am going to have to get a new alternator but I don't want to screw with the distributor cap settings so I am thinking about buying 150 amp alternator, not too huge not too small. But the cold rating is 70 amps which still isn't enough to power my desired setup.
Since I want high spl I want to know if you guys think it is possible to power 2 subs at 400RMS or would it be better to go with a lower wattage sub.
Now I spend so much money changing my setup I am not looking to spend a crap load of money on this setup so could you guys recommend some good spl subs that dont cost a fortune.
I would like some Eclipse Alums or JL Audio 12w6v2 but they are alittle costly for me as I just quit my job. So Some lower priced ones I have looked at are Kicker VR's (400RMS), JBL Power Series (400RMS), or Fosgate HE2 (400RMS).
Anyone ever hear any Elemental Design Subs?
Any ideas?
Check out Kicker L7 subs at
www.thewholesalematrix.com very affordable and they bang.

I be tossin and flossin, my style is awesome. Causin' more family feuds than Richard Dawson.
Great bang for the buck sub would be Diamond Audio CM3 series. They handle 500rms each, have good sq and spl, and are priced very reasonable.
