Hey i have a 2001 4Runner and in the next week im installing my eclipse aluminum 15 with the Alpine MRD-M500 and was wondering if my stock alt. will be fine? If so would it still be ok if i added an Alpine amp that is about 80x2 channels to run some components??
thanks

It would really depend on how large you alternator is. I would call your local dealership and ask them. Your M500 will draw just shy of 40 amps. The 80x2 will draw about 12.5 amps. Let us know what you find.

I would wager that you are on the limits of what the electrical system is designed for. If you are going to listen to this system at full volume, then a alternator is probably in your future, if you listen to your system at moderate volume levels (because hearing is a good thing) you will probably be OK. The only way to know is to try it.

you will be fine,,the alpine amps are super efficient, they draw no more than 30 amps max,,,,heck, i haven't seen mine even flash a draw over 15 amps for a slit second. I have mine in a nissan pathfinder,,,basically the exact same truck, ,we both have 70-90 amp alts,,,,,im also running a 500 watt speaker amp, and im good to go. I had 3 mrd-m500's this summer for my summer system and my lights dimmed a little.

Thanks alpineguy that sounds like i should be fine. I have the limited one that comes with the tow package and i think that adds a little ampage to your alternator.

there is alson 1 major thing i did to help out,,,it may not sound big,,but its a very important thing. I upgraded the power wire from my alt from 8 guage,,to 4 guage. I left the stock power wire attached,,,but i added the 4 guage,, , , i did the ground wire also. My lights dimmed a ton before i did the upgrade, now there fine. Cost me about $40 for wire, split loom, and ring terminals. And its about a hour job.

Where can i pick these things up? I also know nothing about engines. How much would this cost to have done if its a difficult thing to do?
thanks a lot

you can get it at your stereo shop, , you will need enough 4 guage wire to go from your alt. to your battery,,,,and your alt. to ground,,,,,and your battery to ground. your going to need 6 ring terminals. You don't need to know much about engines,,,,,if you know what your alt looks like,,then you will be fine,,,just leave the wires that are already there on there too. Your just adding more wires.

no prob. Does your truck have a voltmeter?? When your running stereo equipment off of the stock alt. i kinda get anal about my voltage,,especially at night when i have my lights on. That way you can visually see what your voltage is at,,and if your drawing to much then you know you have to turn something off,,or down.

Yes, it's a good idea of what's going on with the electrical system, you have a pm.
