There nothing wrong with mounting the amp to the box, however it dose make it easier to steal for a thief.

Not a problem. My box is about a metre wide behind the back seat, and most of my gear is mounted to it. then i put a trim panel on, with cutouts for the major components, to cover the wiring and stuff.

I agree with bberman I had all my stuff stolen once before: Two JL subs, Two kenwood amps, and my head unit.I had the amps mounted on the box. All was gone with one tote.

as long as the box is made of thick enough wood and braced well it's ok. If you are using a pre-fab box I have seen problems with the extra vibrations rattle components loose inside, please note that Ive only seen this twice and our shop puts amps on the back of boxes pretty often with no problem.

I am building a box right now for a Punch XLC 12" and I will be mounting the amp in the side. THe box will have a recessed area in the sound that is about 2.5 inches deep for the amp. This will make the amp less visible when its in my extended cab truck. Although there is the danger of it being stolen more easily... I hope to make it relatively invisible.

does anyone know any good websites to get box carpeting from?

mount the box with carriage bolts and put nyloc nuts on it on the inside of the box. Mount the amp to the box with torx screws or some other wierd screw, maybe even bolt it through the box and put nyloc nuts again on the inside. A thief assumes that things are not mounted, not mounted properly or is mounted with phillips head screws. The best you can hope for is to really slow them down.

My car was broken into and I think the thieves just used a fricken pry bar.  My whole interior was destroyed.  They didn't care what kind of screw was holding it down and most of the equipment was probably destroyed in the process.
