So I was in my local Tweeter store today getting some info for installing my new HU in my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  I was asking the guy how to hook it up since I have the Infinity Gold stereo in my Jeep.  He said there are 2 ways of doing it...first was simply use a normal wiring harness and run everything through the Infinity amp.  Second was something I have never heard of...he said they often take a set of RCA cables and cut them apart and wire them directly to the high level line inputs running into the factory amp.  Then they plug the RCA end into the RCA output on the head unit.

Has anyone ever heard of such a thing and if so, how in the hell do you do something like this?  I'm just afraid of running the peaker outs from the HU directly into the amp.

Any input would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance!

I would just do the first method.  If you have a really high output deck "over 50 watts" then bypass the amp.  The second method works but I think it is shady.  Metra might make a bypass but I doubt it.

I just installed it today...the first way.  Sounds pretty good.  The HU is a Fosgate so the signal is pretty clean.  Eventually I may try to locate a bypass cable, but this works well for now.  I know www.installer.com has a bypass cable listed as "coming soon" on their website, but it's not available yet.
