Subject: Sub output only

Dipped into the Christmas bag early to see what the jolly one will bring.  I asked for a new stereo and gave some specs, it has RCA outputs for Front and Rear, and one for sub output.  I want to hook my 2 15's up, do I use a splitter on hte sub output to my amp input?

Thanks for the help

You can run a single patch cable to the input on the amp.

Wouldn't that only allow me to drive one of the subs?  Like if I hooked it up to the L on the amp, then it would only drive the left sub.  If I hook the speakers in series then, I drop to 8 ohms...not good.  I don't know if the amp is 2 Ohm stable (recommends 4 Ohm).

the *one* preout is mono therefore only one is needed for the sub amp. unless the sub amp is driving in stereo then only the one would be all you would need, If the amp recommends 4 ohm stay with that

* then only one would be all you would need*

correct that to state *if the amp is a stereo (2 channel) amp then you could use the splitter but you would still have a mono signal at the amp.

My amp is set up for 2 channel, L and R...so a mono out would need to be split to drive 2 4-ohm subs.  Any modification outside that changes the current and I would like to avoid that.  Splitting it shouldn't do anything adverse is my question...besides cutting the 5V down to 2.5 each input.

Is this amp bridgable?
Stable at 2 OHMS?
your right the 5V would be split to 2.5V each. The only difference this is going to make is the SQ, honestly I don't think there would be that much of a noticable difference on the subs.

Most likely the sub output on the head will have a 2 channel output. If it dose not then put a Y on the one channel and split it to 2 channels (there are no adverse affects other then the signal will be mono). But do you know the make and model of your headunit, amp and sub?

where do you get a head unit with a mono sub output?  I've never seen that.

I've never seen it on any alpine I used.  I had one damn near top of the line from them too.

Is it a new thing?  I've kinda been outta touch with things for like 3 years though.

i had sub-out on my alpine tapedeck NaughtLM. And that was 6 years ago.

front pair, rear pair, sub pair. 6 RCA's coming out the back. Had full sub control, for on/off and volume 1-15.

seen plenty of decks like this. never seen one with a single RCA for the sub output. But, if i did, I'd just use a Y-piece splitter.

Actually, my current Alpine surround sound processor only has 1 RCA for sub-out. And I did use a Y-splitter. works fine.

Well i know that a lot can be set up in a mono mode but I have always seen two rca's coming out of the unit.  I was thinking to myself "Quality product?  Look for something that you have to split the rca to send signal to an amp and reduce your sound quality.  Just doesn't seem to be a feature I am going to look for."

I'm sure it will work fine just to use a splitter for the subs but I would think you start to sacrifice sound quality if it were for highs or mids.

im splitting my speaker amp, and i didn't notice anything, shure i may have needed to turn up my gain a little more tho.   I really should save up for the other RCA cable.
