Is there a best way to direct your woofers, down, up, front, back?  Does it change sound at all?

i played around with this for a while but i found that in the truck it is best to face them towards the back of the car (trunk), but all cars are differnt , just play around with it

the only way i will run subs is towards the rear (trunklid) or upright, towards the top of the trunklid and towards the rear deck when i am running 4 or more subs in a trunk

When I let my seats down i get a better sounding bass when the subs are facing the interior of the car and a higher spl

In my opinion, there is more clarity in the music if the sound is bounced of the rear of the car, face them away from you, with the magnets inside the enclosure.

It is my belief that when installing subs in the rear trunk area of a car that the distance between the speaker/ports and the rear(bumper) plays a role in SPL.  In my 04' Grand Am I am able to gain 2db's by having the ports of my bandpass approximately 1 foot from the taillights.. If I move it to 3 feet away than I lose 1 db but gain lower frequency response.

Ok here is a somewhat solution to this, from what i hear it takes 28feet to create a full wave length of a 32hz tone..most street beat vented boxs i build are tuned from 32-38hz. comp boxs a little higher 43hz+ so basically you need about 20+feet for your average box to obtain max SPL. as far as was said earlier with moving closer to the hatch or trunk yes this does increase spl in that case where the trunk is so big i would run 4 subs if possible and face up..this is all my opionion i have had many others, like the guys that come in with there super blue's in the back seat faceing the celing because they think that makes it loud....you never know what you will see

I don't know if you care anything about SPL but I don't (been there done that).  For better sound Q I have found that it is better to have them facing the rear.  Two reasons, you don't get the harsh raw bass directy from the driver , and it helps lengthen the wavelength to better attain that "sweet spot".  Of course, that is my opinion.

Does anyone have experience (or an opinion) with standard cab trucks - I am installing a single 12 and I am struggling with centering it behind the seat facing forward or placing it in a corner firing at an angle.   Any thoughts???

for a sealed enclouser fire the subs to the trunk lid/license plates but if you have a ported box, its a diff story, you may want to face the subs towards the cab and the ports to the trunk lid...

My experience with standard cab trucks is that unless it is a Mazda, it aint gonna happen with a 12"
