Searched around here and didn't find the answer, which means I probably missed it somewhere...
Anyway, recently purchased and '03 Durango and am in the process of upgrading the stereo/ speakers. I have JL Audio 6" speakers for all four doors. When I took my driver door apart, the factory speaker was housed in a plastic mount which I unscrewed from the door. There is no room to mount my new speaker directly into the door without this mounting. I removed the factory speaker from the plastic mounting, and am trying to figure out a way to secure my new speaker in this thing. The mounting was designed to fit the factory speaker so although my new speaker fits into it, I can't screw it in or anything. Any ideas on how to secure my new speaker to this mounting? Does an aftermarket mounting adapter exist? I believe the '03 Durango will have the same interior as the '01 and '02. Thanks for any help/ advice in advance!
You might need to make an adapter plate and attach the plate to mount and then attach the JL to the adapter. According to crutchfield, you can fit 6 3/4 speakers in the doors. How does the factory speaker attach to this mount?

If you think you're confused, imagine how you feel.

if it is your own vehicla i would just drill and screw new holes into the plastic ring to fit the jl's onto them
