I bought a used 98 Ford Escort ZX2 with a nice aftermarket stereo in it. Recently the car was broken into and stereo was stolen. I noticed after it was stolen my climate control illumination was not working. The stereo harness was unplugged when taken, ,so no damage there. However I noticed 2 thin black wires coming out of the back of the oval shaped panel that holds the radio and ac switches. Anyways I bought a new stereo and the harness plug for my car. The harness shoms there wires, labeled as follows. 1) Orange-Illumination 2) ORANGE / white-Dimmer (+) 3) ORANGE / black-Dimmer (-). My question is are these just simply ground wires to connect to stereo's ground, or what do I plug these into to have the illumation for the ac controls to work again??
P.S This is a great site. I found it while looking for color schematics for my car to install my alarm system, and I found the answers quickly. I'm not making the same mistake twice. =) There are lots of informative posts here. Kudo's to all involved.
The Orange wires are to hook up illumination to the aftermarket deck. Those do not get grounded. Most decks only have an ORANGE / white wire for the dimmer. Do Not Ground those that could blow a fuse or short something out. Otherwise for your illumiination for the ac controls a bulb could be burned out or you could have a wire that's not making contact like its supposed to behind the deck where the controls are. double check the connections and make sure everything is solid behind there. Hope that helps.
