My xm radio is not working right. I can get the stations but they fade in and out!! I have checked all the connections and my antenna cables from end to end and found no cuts or nicks anywhere. Any suggestions of what else to check???

I just finished installing mine, ( actually cut my antenna wire and spliced it back together) so antenna probably isn't the prob..........make sure you have the antenna mounted in a spot that faces south and does not have a restricted view of the southern sky. The second thing to check is the station you have it tuned to ( if you are using an fm modulator) make sure there is no station present

It does not have a modulater, it is hooked to a pioneer radio. The thing is I have had it hooked up for almost a year now and have had no problems. I just got in the truck one day and it was on and then riding down the road it started fading in and out like it was loosing the signal. I can still get the stations but they only stay on for about three seconds then they fade out for a minute then back on for three or four seconds. So maybe it is my satellite tuner?? I also checked to make sure my subscription was still good and it is good until february??

Boatracer, the problem is your Xm tuner. For some reason those pioneer tuner crap out. it will fade in and out then loose signal. I had a few customers with that problem. Just like the one in my Explorer it worked fine for about a year, then started acting up. change antenna same problem, then changed the XM tuner it works perfect. My tuner it connected to my Pioneer radio as well. You won't find New tuners out there you best bet is going to Ebay and try buying a use one. Good luck  ------------- Luis

My guess would be something to do with the charging system in the tuner, perhaps some of the capicitors are going bad, need a long time to charge up... My dad is an electrician and told me that can happen, something to do with the di-electric plates breaking down? Not sure, I'm not much of an electronics guy myself... I would suggest calling up Pioneer and asking them, the worst that can happen is nothing... Worth a try! --mindctrl

all day today the thing has been working perfect. I had checked all the connections again this morning before work and everything looked good. I also unplugged it and checked to make sure I had good power and ground, I wonder if it may have reset itself from losing all power?? but it would do the same thing if the ignition was turned off , so now I am lost !!!

I've had a bunch of problems where Pioneer Tuners would come back to me (both direct link and FM Modded) after about a year with customers complaining they just stopped working.....swapped the tuners out and so far everythings been fine, Pioneer does still make a XM Tuner the model # for the old one is PIO GEXP901XM, the new Tuner model # is the PIO GEXP910XM, if either of these work.....you can always wait for the universal XM Tuner which is supposed to hit retailers this month -------------
