audiobahn sub

hey guys, i have a AWT15X, and it;s a dual 2 ohm voice coil, the site says it's made to run at 4 ohm or 1 ohm, my friend thought that was odd for it to be run at 1ohm, so we hooked up an ohm meter, and it read 4 ohms, does this mean it can only be ran at 4ohms, because iam buying a memphis 1000D, it;s made to produce 1100RMS at 1 ohm, and only like 200RMS or so at 4ohm, is the reading wrong, or is audiobahn wrong?

No, its all in how its wired.  Each voice coil will produce 2 ohm each, wired in serial it will produce 4 ohm's of resistance.  But if you wire it in parrallel it will produce 1 ohm of resistance.  I use to have a pair of audiobahns, so if they're anything like mine were they have those hex lock terminals with 4 connectors in each.  To wire it to 1 ohm run the wire from the amp to one side, then run a separate positive and negative to the positive and negative on the other side.  If the amp came with an audiobahn manual it should have a diagram of how to wire it up to get different resistances.

ok, i hooked itup to ohm, but when i still hook up the ohm meter, it reads in between 1ohm and 2 ohm, it keeps chagning, doesn;t stay near 1 or 2, which should i run it at, 1 ohm or 2 ohm?

You need to take into account that ohm's are not permenate properties. The term "1 Ohm subwoofer" means that the sub will produce down to 1 Ohm, it will vary between 8 and 1 depending on other things such as voltage and amprage, so really, if its reading 1 ohm and bouncing between 2 ohms and 1, that means its putting up an average resistance thats varying between 1 and 2 ohms. So in simpler terms it can be wired to 1 ohm but still produce more resistance.
