ok, here the problem. I was setting up a system for a friend and she ordered everything online but she ordered the wrong subs.

Instead of the 2 12" type-R 1241 the sent her the 1221

1241 are dual 4 ohm and the 1221 are dual 2 ohm

she also got 2 Alpine MPR-M350

So I wired them to 4 ohms each and put them each in a ported box. but at 4 ohms i don't think they are getting the power they need, because the amps are only 200rms at 4 ohms. Is there a better way to wire them.

I called the seller and he said he would take them back but could not refund shipping. Should she just sell them on her own and buy new ones or what.

Thanks.

Here is the "spec" from Alpine for your amp •14.4V RMS Continuous Power
2ohm; (0.3% THD) 350W x 1

The amp will make the most power when it is run at a 2ohm mono load, one way to get there is with 2 dual 2ohm subs wired in series parallel. Each sub is wired in series to 4ohm and then paralled together to create a 2 ohm mono load. This should be how you have wired things up and if I'm correct (on my way home now and buzzed from resin odours) then you have the right subs. I would imagine that a bigger amp and or different box would be your best bet if you want it to be louder.

Rob, yeah I guess resin odors were playing a trick on me too.  I didn't notice at first but he has 2 amplifiers, one for each sub.  You could always just do a series-parallel configuration like Rob suggested, and sell the extra amplifier.  What you'd probably prefer, though, is to get 2 4-ohm dual voice coil subs and use one amp for each sub.  Really it's up to you and your friend, as to what you'd care to do.  Where did she purchase the equipment?

No more odours this morning... ahhhhh... clean air except for the installers nasty a$$. You are going to have to either swap subs or swap amps (didn't catch the 2 amp part last night, thanks jeepherder). I would be inclined to keep the subs and get a bigger amp. It is much easier to run one amp on two subs than it is to match 2 amps to two subs. You also will use less space, wiring and usually current draw is a little lower. Pitfalls of two amps include difference in output levels, difference in crossover frequencies and a pile of others. I am not saying it is a bad idea for the experienced user or novice user with a serious professional installer, but for a novice or enthusiast that is doing it themselves or has no scope to verify setting between amps, one single larger amp is your best bet. Find yourself an amp that is designed to operate at 2ohm mono or 1 ohm mono and produce the amount of rms power that you require. It is always a safe bet to overpower the subs, you can always turn the gain down (preferred).

Keep your two 4 ohm subs and buy a Rockford Punch 601S amp off of crutchfield.com at https://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-EL41FJeiRzg/ProdView.asp?s=0&c=3&g=110&I=575601S&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N

Wire your subs in series to get a 4 ohm load and bridge the Rockford amp to get 600 watts RMS out of it at 4 ohms.
