Does anyone know which wires to hook up on a 2001 Buick Lesabre to improve radio reception (most importantly AM) ?  This is one of the cars with the radio that slides in and out with a stationary harness and the diversity antennas (front & rear glass).  I replaced the stock radio with a kenwood unit a couple of weeks ago and the customer is back with AM reception problems.  Any info would be appreciated.

I don't think that there are any wires that can help you. This is the way it is, factory radio's spend more money to develop the tuner section of the radio for better reception, aftermarket manufacturer's spend more money on the cd mech and the amplifier for better sound and more power. There is a trade off. There are a couple of things that can help but it will probably never be as good as the factory radio.

The problem is...there is box between the headliner and roof that ha both antenna wire going into it and one coming out to go to the dash it also has two wires in a plug that go into it...both I believe end up in the factory harness but I do not know which does what  (  a WHITE/ red and a white at the box and a white and a purple at the harness) I think the box may be a booster of some sort but I am not quite sure how to hook it up.

There is an antenna module in the car above the center rear headliner. The white wire needs 12 volts + when the radio is on to power the module. The whitre wire runs to the factory radio location. Use the power antenna output of your new radio to power it. The WHITE/ red wire is for the FM composite signal and only works through the factory radio. Make very sure that the antenna lead adaptor you are using is the correct one and fits tight to the factory antenna lead. If there is any aftermarket window tint on the rear window, this will also give you poor AM reception.

This one got me as well on a new Buick as well, see what happens to your reception when you touch the inside of the window antenna! We had the same exact problem.
