Opinions on component sets?

I'm wanting to set up a vehicle with unbelievable tonal accuracy. SO, i want opinions on which brands people have heard and been blown away by. So far I'm lookin at Boston Acoustics (a little more $ than i want to spend), JL XR series components (i like the biamp capabilities), and Cerwin-Vega IT's (cuz i can get them at cost...). Also in consideration is size. Smaller is prefferable as these are going to be mounted in fiberglass pods on the A-frame against the windshield (its a very large dash, so the left/right imaging wont be too bad...). So fire away folks; Who do ya like?

Yeah, MB Quart entered my mind, But Rockford-Fosgate Bought the company and THEY havent made a respectable product in like 10 years, so i'm afraid of what they've done to MB since the purchase. Anybody seen a change in quality of them?

I have a set of JL Audio XR650 csi running on a JL audion 300/4, I absolutely love these components. They are incredibly accurate and rich, I have owned A/D/S, MB Quart and Infinity Kappa components and none have come close to thses speakers. Another possibility is Adire Koda's, I have personally heard these speakers and they are awesome. You can go to their website and locate a local dealer in your area to drop by and give them a listen.

I personally like memphis highs. Check them out. These were the first set I have ever owned that sounded almost as good as my house system which is rare in the automotive realm. The JL's are nice too.

i have heard them all, and settled with the alpine type-x components. They turned me from car guy, to alpine guy in 15 seconds of listening. They blew away any other speaker set i have heard. Except the F#1 status type-x, which there is no explination for.

The JL's definately look good on the website (i LOVE the bi-amping capability!) I sell memphis at one shop i work for and they dont even ride in the league of these others. I think it's narrowed down to the JL's and The MB Quart's . the MB's have a 4" component set which is nice since the smaller size will fit better on the a-pillar, but the JL's do spec out better. choices, choices, choices....

not to get off the subject but when running compnents what size speaker wire would you guys recomend,18,16,14 gauge???. i was thinking 16 but i want ti make sure. also i been looking around at some and it has the sameguague wire but the amount of strands inside are different which means the price is diff. does that nount of strands make that big of difference .ether way its stilll goingto be the same gauge. i found 16ga speaker one had 41 strands the other 105. and the price was about doubled for a spool and you got less on the 14 stand spool.
anyone clear that up.sorry for going of the topic but i thought everytone should have an understandingn

The gauge you want is dependant upon the length of wire and current being passed through it. Theres charts all over to help you choose the appropriate size. Probably one on here too. the strands relates to conductivity. Allegedly the more strands in a wire, the better it will conduct all frequencies equally (assumes concepts like "skin effect" and "time correction", etc...), But technically if you want EXTREMELY accurate wire, you're best off using a multi-conductor SOLID wire system, kind of like Cat-5. It really does make a noticable difference on GOOD speakers (mostly Very Hi-Fi HOME audio). to see examples of what i'm talking about check out www.audioadvisor.com and look at cables made be Audiquest and (several other companies). Although solid wire is not very well suited to mobile applications (it will break due to stresses) if you did want it its aroud $30 per FOOT!! ------------- Mitchell Whitney, Installer/technician
