I have time here, about a month or so or until the weather outside gets over 1degree so I am in no rush, and i am trying to learn as much as possible. Anyway though I am helping my friend hook up his 2000 Land Crusier, what we have in mind is a dvd player, good system, and throw a couple neons in for good measure. I think I have a decent idea of what to do, but I may be grossly wrong or need a lil clarification, but here it goes. I want to take a 4gauge wire from the battery (fused to 150amps) and bring that to a fused Dblock where I want to split the power to four wires all diff gauges. I want to send a smaller gauge wire to a switch or switchbox, which I could hook neons up to(this part ive done before so I am sure about this). The 2nd wire I want to that to an Amp which will power 2 speakers for my midbass. Then the 3rd wire I would send to a higher power amp to run two sub's. The 4th Wire I would run to a dvd player, which i would then connect to the LCD screens mounted in the headrest. I would ground them all, and hopefully it will all work. Is there anything very wrong about this set up? If there is please tell me. I do have a ton of questions though like.. How would I connect the dvd to the HU so that I could hear the dvd's in the system? I understand OHMS, but what is the best way to choose speakers/subs for amps? Which capacitator is appropriate for what wattage sub? If I was to replace and run the two backspeakers off the amp how do I disconnect the stock wire from the HU running the stock back speakrs? I have 1000 other little questions but answers to these or anything would be amazing right now. Thanks a lot

Well first question I have is are you going to be putting in a aftermarket HU...from your post it does not sound that way...I think that a new HU would help you out.... You could then run rca's from the back of your head unit to your amps which will allow you more control over your subs and fade control and it will also you to run rca's from your dvd player to your head unit. As far as knowing ohms law, You must first determine what the impendace is on the sub (2,4,6 ohms) so if you have any suggestions on the speakers you are going to use Let us know..... Also what type of amp will you be using model number, brand etc.... A good rule of thumb for your stiffing capacitor for your amp is a 1000 watts for every 1 farad / 500 watts for .5 farad etc.... As far as the neon switch ( I ) would run a separte wire for that and fuse it, thats me, I think that it would look ahhhhh you know...not to attractive... the 2nd and 3rd wire that setup sounds good (depending on how large of amps you are talking about) maybe a larger gauge wire back to the dist. block just let us know what size amps these are going to be so we can let you know what size wire as for the 4th wire....?...for the dvd player I am not sure how you would hook that up never put in a dvd player... others should be able to help you... Well most mobile dvd players have three wires...you have constant, remote, and ground. Use the same ground as your HU, and you can also get 12 volts from your HU, and your remote. If you are going to wire up some dvc subs, you may want to post it up here before you do it if you are not familiar with Ohms. Wiring the subs to low, or incorrectly could mess up your amp, and subs. If you have any question just post it. Hope this helps...

? what gauge wire does a dvd player require or need....and the same ground for your hu...is the length erelvent...?sp? just curious thanks ------------- If we learn from each success and

You shouldnt make a ground cable any longer then 3 feet is what I have heard.

^ depends on the resistance of the ground return which most installers never think to check or solve, if it is too high and cannot be lowered, then it is a good bet to ground direct to the battery. For a distribution block, Lightning Audio has the perfect piece for you. It is a cap mount, power and ground distribution block all in one. model# LL10db. This will save you alot of time and money when install day comes. Like was posted above, we need more info to progress further. To measure resistance of the ground, touch one lead of your multimeter to the ground point, the other to the negative battery terminal. You can make a jumper with alligator clips or whatever for one lead. First measure resistance of this lead, then back to the battery. Some basic subtraction will give you your number.
