Im want to put a 6.75 inch midrange driver in my doors where 6x8 factory speakers used to be. Im wondering how to go about doing this. Do they make conversion brackets or something for this purpose? If so where could i get them? Oh im trying to do this to the doors of a 2000 mustang. Thanks for any advice!!

Check with a local install bay, someone like best buy or sound advice, they usually have conversion brackets for stuff like this. If that fails you can make your own but its a little tedious so I'd check with an install bay before going any further.

Yes, there are adapter brackets available, or you can make your own out of wood (some MDF will work great).  All you need to do is flop your factory speaker upside down (magnet up), and trace the outside, then mark your mounting holes.  Cut this out, and place your 6.5's upside down on these panels in the same manner.  Mark what you need and cut.

What geepherder is the best way to go. because they don't actually make 6x8 to 6.75 adapters...only 6x8 to 6.5 and 5.25 adapters. My only suggestion is (depending on the car you're doing this in) you may need to also add a spacer so the speaker isn't sitting way deep in the hole. I did this same thing with my 97 altime...I used quater inch (1/4th) MDF and made a plate and then another piece (in the shape of the speaker) to bring it out and away from the door a bit. I also suggest putting some silicone in between the MDF and the door (kind of like a gasket). That will give it a nice air and water tight seal. Good luck.

Coat the mdf with fibreglass resin (mixed with hardener of course) as well. If you have room for 1/2" mdf, use it, it will make a much more solid mount. Why the resin? because mdf will suck up moisture more than a wet / dry shop vac. If you have any type of moisture in your door, guarantee that it will find your nice new baffle board and destroy it worse than termites. Paint the baffle board blask after it is dry from the resin. In some cases they can be seen through the factory grills, the black paint makes them almost invisible. While your in the door, add some brown bread to the exterior door skin as well.

Look at this from Boston. It actually has a 6/12 woofer in a 5 X 7 enclosure. It probobly comes with rings to fit a 6 X 8 opening also. Also these are some rings to fit a 5 1/4 inch speaker in a 6 X 8 opening.
