Well, I have two of them in a small sealed box and I enjoy them.  They can definitely be ported, but I think the volume requirements for two L7 12"s is enormous.  If you don't mind losing the space, and want it really f' ing loud, that would be the way to go.  As of now, mine get extremely loud in a small sealed enclosure (each chamber about 1 cubic foot after displacement) and sound pretty good (I'm still messing with the gain).  With regard to an amp choice, my L7's are dual 4 ohm so I am running them to a Crossfire VR1000D at 1 ohm.  I think the MTX would be a fine choice.  I think Rockford makes an amp that puts out about 1500 watts at 2 ohms.  Really any amp that puts out 1500 watts at 2 ohms would be prefectly fine.

I have 2 planet audio amps TT850.  You can hook up one sub to each amp wired at 1ohm. The amp puts out 850 watts at 1ohm. Let me know if your intrested.

Look at JL Audios 1000/1 if you have some cash to spend you wont be dissapointed with this amp. It outputs the same amount of power from 1.5 to 4 ohms which can come in real handy. Otherwise go with a Rockford Fosgate amp. Look at their Power 1501bd. at 2 ohms it outputs 1500 watts RMS. If you do go with multiple amps you should carefully match each amps output so they are all the same to avoid cancellation.
